Vic: Vic police to be issued with stun guns

The Victorian government will issue elite members of its police force with stun guns
from next year.

A spokesman for Police Minister ANDRE HAERMEYER says members of the special operations
group will be issued with the stun guns as part of an operational trial.

He says tests on the medical effects on people who have had the stun guns used on them
have been completed.

The announcement follows an incident earlier this week, when police used a patrol car
to knock over a knife-wielding man to end a siege near Bendigo, in central Victoria.
