NSW: Carr takes swipe at federal govt over EC

With all New South Wales now drought-declared, Premier BOB CARR has called for thefederal government to cut the red tape and declare the whole state eligible for ExceptionalCircumstances assistance.

Mr CARR says federal Agriculture Minister WARREN TRUSS should declare the remaining32.5 per cent of the state in drought as eligible for the funding.

On February 6, Mr Carr announced 99.6 per cent of New South Wales in drought and0.4 per cent marginally in drought.

Exceptional Circumstances applications have been approved for more than two-thirds- or 67.3 per cent - of the state.

Mr CARR says the state government is preparing applications that cover the 32.5 percent currently not declared eligible for assistance.
