Vic: Private sector to built 10 new schools in Melbourne

Ten new Victorian schools will be built around Melbourne .. under a partnership with
the private sector.

Premier JOHN BRUMBY says the partnerships mean principals can concentrate on helping
students .. instead of day-to-day maintenance of buildings.

The schools will open in Melbourne's growth corridors .. and will be the first to be
built under a public private partnership.





Under the deal .. a private consortium will build the schools on government land and
maintain them for 25 years.

The company will receive payment for the school once it's built and approved by the
government .. and will then be paid annual operational costs.

Eight primary schools will be built at Point Cook .. Taylors Hill .. Derrimut .. Kororoit
Creek .. and Truganina in the western suburbs .. Lyndhurst and Cranbourne in the southeast
.. and Mernda in the north.

A Prep-to-year 12 school will be built in Cranbourne and a secondary school's planned
for the north-western suburbs.
