San Francisco, Calif. -- Macromedia Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) today announced the winners of the 1999 Macromedia People's Choice Awards, the company's popular competition that allows Macromedia developers and designers to honor new digital works created by their peers. With voting held last week at the Macromedia International User Conference in San Francisco, 22 winners were named in categories spotlighting various multimedia, print, and Web projects. UCON '99 also served as the venue for the Masters of the Web Macromedia Mini-Marathon, a six-hour competition benefiting a San Francisco-based educational employment charity.

"With the People's Choice Awards, the Masters of the Web Mini-Marathon, and a world-class line-up of conference sessions and keynotes, UCON '99 was a defining moment for Web design in 1999," said Brian Allum, senior vice president of worldwide field operations at Macromedia. Macromedia also joined forces with Masters of the Web, the annual competition among the country's top Web designers, to host the Masters of the Web Macromedia Mini-Marathon on May 25. The six-hour Web design competition gave designers the opportunity to develop a portion of a Web site for an initiative of CHALK: Community in Harmony Advocating for Learning and Kids.

Located on the Web at http://www.webmasters99.com, the San Francisco-based organization uses technology to empower and educate youth through innovative employment programs. Taking first place in the competition and receiving a new Apple iMac was Vision Factory of Apex, N.C. Second place winners were Team JUXT, by Todd Perguson of Juxt Interactive, Irvine, Calif., who received $500 from Comstock Stock Photography. Third place winners were a team of four design professionals calling themselves Factor 15: Joe Caccavano, Mike Caccavano, Brett Yancy Collins and Sharon R. Brown each received Macromedia Flash 4 authoring software for taking third place.
