Qld: Climate change and land clearing 'vital election issues'

Green groups are calling for climate change and land clearing to dominate environmental
concerns at the Queensland election.

TOBY HUTCHEON from the Queensland Conservation Council says there needs to be a new
approach to climate change .. with targets set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
engage the community in supporting change.

He says increasing reliance on coal and building more dams .. like the proposed Traveston
Dam .. is simply killing Queensland.

Meanwhile The Wilderness Society says the state needs a real and binding commitment
from all political parties to protect remaining wild rivers and support the planned phase
out of broadscale land clearing.
